Video: Andrew Rannell’s references to spontaneous singing in ALL IN: COMEDY ABOUT LOVE

Tonight Andrew Rannells returns to Broadway with All In: Comedy About Love. During a recent visit to Live with Kelly and Mark, the Gutenberg! Star discussed the show, a compilation of “quirky” short stories by Simon Rich about relationships and love.

“Someday I’ll play a pirate. Lin-Manuel (Miranda) plays a baby,” Rannells teased. The actor appears in the show alongside Nick Kroll, Aidy Bryant and Lin-Manuel Miranda, all of whom have scripts in hand on stage. “We were told there would be a teleprompter, but we actually memorize it,” he explained.

Although it is not a musical, Rannells also shared that there will be live music from The Bengsons, who perform a selection of songs from The Magnetic Fields. However, Rannells did not rule out the possibility of some additional spontaneous melodies during a performance. “(For) Lin and I, our job is to make musicals. So maybe we’ll force a song.” Watch the interview here.

LOVE IS PATIENT. LOVE IS GOOD. LOVE IS COMPLICATED… And so is All In: Comedy About Love by Simon Rich, a series of hilarious short stories about dating, heartbreak, marriage and the like – read live by some of the funniest people in the world, with different ones each week Groups of four enter the stage. In some stories the stars portray pirates, in others they play dogs and in one we have them speak with a British accent. But even if the series is somewhat ubiquitous, it aims to tell a simple story: that the most important part of life is who we share it with. We hope everyone can relate to this, even if it was their date’s idea and they start from a state of quiet annoyance. It’s everything you want from an evening – laughter, romance, live music and people you know from TV – ALL IN 90 unforgettable minutes.
