Chet Holmgren on the field before Oklahoma City’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers

The road to recovery is a long one for Chet Holmgren, although the Oklahoma City Thunder forward has taken significant steps in the right direction recently as he recovers from a fractured pelvis that has kept him on the sidelines since early November.

Holmgren, who suffered the injury on Nov. 10, posted a photo earlier this week of himself boarding the team plane for OKC’s four-game road trip, apparently without crutches under his arms. The former Gonzaga star captioned the photo with a four-word message to describe how much he missed being with the team while recovering from his injury.

After OKC’s shootout on Tuesday, Holmgren reiterated his desire to get back on the field when he was seen standing up a few shots before the Thunder’s game at the Philadelphia 76ers.

Holmgren suffered a fractured right iliac wing after landing awkwardly in the first quarter of OKC’s game against the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 10. As he jumped to challenge Andrew Wiggins at the rim, the mid-air collision sent the 7-foot-1 Holmgren crashing to the hardwood on his right side. Holmgren remained on the floor in obvious pain for a few moments before he was helped to walk off the field and into the locker room. He didn’t put any weight on his right leg.

The former No. 2 overall pick left the Warriors game with four rebounds. He averaged 18.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks through the first nine games of the season. Holmgren ranked second in blocked shots (26), trailing only Victor Wembanyama at the time of his injury.
