The Lakers could give the .4 million Jazz guard a second chance through a trade

A Los Angeles Lakers players meeting could take place in the next few weeks.

An electric Utah Jazz scorer who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Lakers could return to Los Angeles in a surprise contract.

“The Los Angeles Lakers have less than a month to make significant changes to their roster,” Ricardo Sandoval of Sports Illustrated wrote on Tuesday.

“The NBA trade deadline on February 6th is slowly approaching and the Lakers are expected to be at the forefront. Los Angeles is linked to many players in the market, some of whom are their former players.”

“The Lakers have lost many of the great players they once had on their roster, and this trade proposal includes a reunion with one of their former players, current Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson.”

“This trade idea (Gabe Vincent, Jalen Hood-Schifino and a 2025 second-round pick to the Jazz for Clarkson) results in Clarkson returning to Los Angeles in exchange for two guards and a draft pick.”

“The 32-year-old guard has developed into a reliable scorer and veteran. This season he is averaging 16.0 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the field and 34 percent from three-point range.”

“While Clarkson is currently sidelined with a torn plantar fascia in his left foot, he has two years left on his contract, including this year, and his proven scoring ability makes him an attractive option for the Lakers.”

The Jazz will continue to lose games with their current roster, but Clarkson has been an underrated offensive weapon for the struggling 10-28 ballclub.

Clarkson is a fearless isolation scorer who isn’t afraid to make difficult jump shots on the move. He is arguably Utah’s second MVP.

However, since his time in Los Angeles, the Missouri product has not prioritized efficient scoring, one of the most concerning flaws an NBA player can have.

However, with the Lakers feeling pressured to make another meaningful trade, Clarkson could soon get a call from Rob Pelinka.
