Clint Eastwood is ‘doing well’ after girlfriend’s death, says son Scott (Exclusive)

Scott Eastwood gives an update on his father Clint Eastwood, six months after the Oscar winner’s girlfriend died.

“He’s good. He’s doing well,” Eastwood, 38, tells PEOPLE. “He’s a survivor, a fighter.”

Clint’s partner of ten years, Christina Sandera, died of a heart attack at the age of 61 last July. At the time, the legendary Oscar winner released a statement saying, “Christina was a kind, caring woman and I will miss her greatly.”

When asked what he learned about resilience from his father, Eastwood says, “It’s in our blood. You’re not complaining. You don’t complain. You just do that.”

He notes that the 94-year-old Dirty Harry icon “was born out of the Great Depression and then was young during World War II. He’s seen a lot of struggle.”

“There is no reason to complain,” he continues.

Eastwood – who made his first breakthrough ten years ago in Nicholas Sparks’ romantic drama The longest ride – praises his father for his professional career. “He’s the reason I’m in this industry. It’s like everyone else. If your father was a carpenter, maybe you would be a carpenter,” he says.

The Monterey, California native (his mother is former flight attendant Jacelyn Reeves) told PEOPLE in 2015 that he spent his childhood “being dragged to movie sets.”

Later he had smaller roles in his father’s films, Gran Torino And Flags of our fathers. If he has plans to work with his father again, Eastwood isn’t revealing anything. “Every time I’ve had the opportunity to work with my father, it’s been a great experience,” the actor says now, adding that his father is an “inspiration.”

Eastwood collaborated with another icon in his latest film: Alarum. In the action thriller he has a duel with Sylvester Stallone, whom he describes as “tough”.

“What I like about people like Stallone is that they have this iconography behind them, so the audience can really immediately believe who they are because they have such a story,” he continues.

Since Eastwood grew up in Hollywood, Eastwood’s paths must certainly have crossed Rambo symbol before? The actor admits his memory is a bit, er, unstable.

“I think I did. I don’t really remember,” he says. “I think I met him in passing. Perhaps!”

Alarum hits theaters, digital and on-demand on Friday, January 17th.
