This season, one of Manchester City’s most talented players has had a slow start to the 24/25 season. Phil Foden remained well below his best for most of the first half of the season. A busy summer with England at the European Championships had hit Foden hard. He then battled illness and fitness issues which meant he was unable to reach the heights we have come to expect from Foden.

But recently one of Manchester City’s most important players has started to resemble himself. That’s good news for the World Cup winners, who are aiming for a top-four finish this season. Foden scored a brace against Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium earlier this week. Furthermore, the energy and enthusiasm we have come to expect from Foden appears to have returned. The hope now is that Foden can continue his promising recent successes into the second half of the season.

During his press conference ahead of the match between Manchester City and Ipswich Town, Pep Guardiola was asked how Phil Foden had been traveling recently. Guardiola’s update was good news for Manchester City. Guardiola explained: “It’s not bad what he’s been doing lately. His mood when he smiles and arrives and talks and whatever, we have to be calm. And in the first half of the year he was a little more worried, had a few little things, was worried about his condition and was a little more depressed. Nevertheless, he is a young player, but already has many years of experience in many things. And sometimes you have to take a breath, come back and in this mood, what’s happened in the last three weeks, a month, your natural talent will do the rest.

Manchester City need a fit and firing Phil Foden in the second half of the season. At his best, he is one of the best players in the Premier League. It seems as if he has managed a turnaround in his form in the last few weeks. Following today’s update from Pep Guardiola, there is hope that Foden is now back to his best and can help his team with the challenges that lie ahead this season.
