The Manning brothers are taking part in FanDuel’s Kick of Destiny 3 on Super Bowl Sunday

The Denver Broncos were knocked out of the playoffs by the Buffalo Bills last week, but the great show must go on. The good news for us is that we’ll see some Peyton Manning action over Super Bowl weekend, and I might actually watch – even if the hapless Kansas City Chiefs are back in that game.

FanDuel is starting to turn this Kick of Destiny thing into an annual Super Bowl pre-game ritual. For the last two years it’s been Rob Gronkowski, but this year we have a special treat: Peyton Manning and Eli Manning are competing for the grand prize.

What is Kick of Destiny 3?

The Manning brothers will compete in a head-to-head kicking competition before the game on Super Bowl Sunday at 1:00 p.m. MT live on Fox.

Us commoners can also participate by making the right selections on who we think will win using the FanDuel sports betting app. Whoever guesses correctly will receive an equal share of the $10 million in bonus bets, which will be paid out on the Monday after the Super Bowl. Selections can be made now until 1:00 p.m. Mountain Time on Super Bowl Sunday.

Competition details

  • Peyton and Eli Manning will compete in a field goal kicking competition
  • Each kicker attempts a 25-yard kick
  • If the first kicker makes it, the second kicker gets the chance to tie
  • If the first kicker misses, the second kicker gets a chance to win
  • If both kickers miss their target, they kick again until there is a winner
  • If there is no winner after 3 rounds, the kicker who shot the ball closest to the center goal in the net in the last round wins the tiebreaker

My professional analysis

My gut feeling is that I should go with Eli Manning here. Peyton has had multiple neck surgeries and we all remember how well he moved, and that was over a decade ago. Eli is the safe choice for the safe game, but the riskier the choice, the greater the reward.

What if — and follow me here for a second — Peyton’s giraffe life move was the perfect stability stance for kicking a 25-yard field goal?

Straight ahead. Straight up. Straight in. Simply.

I think Peyton’s bionic neck could be key to some free bones here on Monday after the Chiefs’ loss to the Detroit Lions.
