Denver funeral home accused of keeping body in hearse for over year files new charges | News

The funeral director accused of keeping a body in a hearse for over a year and also financially harassing several grieving families is in trouble again.

Miles Harford faces two new felony charges in Arapahoe County for hacking into his former employer’s business account to pay a Verizon bill.

The Littleton-based allegations occurred between July 6 and July 9, 2024, five months after Harford was arrested and released on bail on charges of corpse abuse and theft, which were charged independently and outside of Denver.

He appeared in Arapahoe District Court on Thursday to answer the two additional theft charges and was released on a personal recognizance bond.

Ronna Phelps, who had been employed by Harford for about a year, was the alleged victim of the theft. She said she noticed two suspicious withdrawals totaling $2,400 from her business account this summer. When she called her bank, an employee asked if she knew Harford, whose name was linked to the two transactions.

“When she asked if I knew the name Miles Harford, I couldn’t believe my ears. It just took my breath away,” Phelps said.

Phelps suspected that Harford was using confidential bank records that he may have acquired when she hired him to allegedly steal from her.

Harford was arrested and released by Littleton police this week and faces two counts of theft and cybercrime.

The allegations are piling up for Harford.

The former owner of Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services faces at least a dozen charges in Denver for incidents that occurred over a period of nearly five years.

Those charges include two counts of forgery, at least four counts of abuse of a corpse and five counts of theft.

On Friday he appeared virtually in court in a blue suit and tie and waived his right to give evidence. Several family members listened to the proceedings and others appeared in person in court.

He will answer his charges in Denver at 8:30 a.m. February 28th.
