At the Australian Open 2015, 19-year-old American Madison Keys reached her first Grand Slam semi-final. She had beaten Venus Williams to get there and would refuse to appear in the final of the later winner Serena Williams.

On Thursday, a decade later, the 29-year-old Keys made it into her first Aussie Open final and defeated the number 2 in the world, Iga Swiatek, with a combination of strength and relentlessness that Swiadek could not defeat. Keys, which is placed in 19th and plays the best tennis of her life, mastered every challenge that Swiatek put on her, and went in two hours and 35 minutes with an exciting 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (8) -In victory.

Swiadek had traveled through the tournament with keys before meeting keys, lost zero sentences and lost a total of 14 games in five games. But Keys challenged Swiatek with her strength, beat seven aces and impressive 36 winners and never let Swiatek come into the rhythm. In the first set, Keys brought her limits to her and prepared Swiatek her first real challenge throughout the tournament. After Swiatek won the sentence, it felt like she had finally gained control of the game.

Keys then dominated Swiatek absolutely in the second set. It rarely happens that Swiatek is almost not competitive in a sentence against a player, but this was one of these moments. Keys was relentless, switched off Swiatek on every opportunity and overwhelmed her with the sheer speed of her return. In just 18 minutes, she built a 5-0 lead over Swiatek and won the set in just 26 minutes.

After two breathtaking sentences, the third end was perfect in a tie -break that was only about the winner. Keys and Swiatek fought for every point, but with an early 5: 3 lead it seemed as if Swiatek were easily winning. However, the keys would not disappear. She chased Swiadek and never gave her too far in the lead until she finally remained 7: 7. She shattered her seventh ace of the game to bring Swiatek to 8: 8 compensation, and then got her tenth and last point due to a casual error from Swiatek.

After hit Swiatek on the net, keys fell to the ground and cried, then she sobbed her towel. The final on Saturday is only the second Grand Slam final of your career and your first in eight years.

Keys has never won a major, and it will be difficult for her to get past the Aryna Sabalenka, which was number 1, who defeated Paula Badosa 6: 4, 6: 2 in 86 minutes and made it into the final. Sabalenka, who strives for her third Australian Open Trophy in a row, also has power and, like Swiatek, had a relatively easy way to the final. In the six games she played until the final, she lost only one sentence and beaten numbers 27, 14 and 11 on her way. But if keys can cleverly use their strength and play the type of tennis that she played on Thursday, she has a real chance of beating the reigning queen of Melbourne Park.

The tennis landscape has changed a lot in the ten years since Keys lost its first Grand Slam semi-final in Melbourne. But in some ways nothing has changed at all. There is always a powerful opponent to defeat, be it Serena Williams or Sabalenka. But now, with a decade of tennis on the hump, we have seen Keys have the ability to use all her physical and mental skills to challenge her opponent. In the final on Saturday she determines her own fate.
