Flags are flying again in Texas after the presidential inauguration on Monday.

According to a White House press release, flags have been ordered to be flown at full capacity at the White House and on all public buildings and grounds, on all military posts and naval stations, and on all federal government naval vessels. in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States

Last week, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered flags at the U.S. Capitol to be flown at full height on Inauguration Day, reversing a 30-day flag-lowering order that had been in place after Death of former President Jimmy Carter on December 29th was in effect at the age of 100.

Johnson’s order came just days after a similar order from Gov. Greg Abbott requiring both the U.S. and Texas flags to be flown at full height when Trump takes the oath of office again. The governor’s office said last Monday that the decision is consistent with a federal law that requires the U.S. flag to be displayed at full height, “particularly on … Inauguration Day, January 20.”

Why are flags returning to half-staff?

In the White House press release, the president ordered flags to be returned to half-staff in honor of the late President Carter.

“Pursuant to Proclamation 10876, dated December 29, 2024 (Announcing the Death of James Earl Carter, Jr.), in recognition of the memory of our former President, until the expiration of 30 days from the date of his death,” the press release states .
