Will Buckeye Chuck see his shadow at Groundhog Day?

This story is updated with Buckeye Chuck’s prediction by Buckeye Chuck

Marion, Ohio (WCMH) – Ohio’s official weather forecast from Groundhog, Buckeye Chuck, will offer his 45th forecast and tell us when we can expect the spring weather to begin.

Around 7:40 a.m. on Sunday, Buckeye’s most popular groundhog will try to see his shadow on the Marion County Fairgrounds Colosseum. The event will stream live on Chuck’s Facebook page. In five of the past six years, Buckeye Chuck has not seen his shadow and predicted an early spring, also in 2024.

Chuck Ohios has been an official marmot since 1979 and is an animal ambassador who lives behind the WMRN studios in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. It has a strong rate to correctly predict the second half of winter with a success rate of more than 75%.

The accuracy of Buckeye Chuck is deepened by Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania, which is around 40% precisely and will also offer its prediction on Sunday. In contrast to Chuck, Phil has only predicted an early spring twice in the past five years. This trend continued when Phill saw his shadow on Sunday and predicted six more winter weeks.

Chuck and Phil’s predictions have been identical in the past two years.
