“She gave us so much”

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos mourn the loss of their beloved dog Chewie, who died on Tuesday, February 4, at the age of 17.

The couple opened the episode on Wednesday from Wednesdays of Live with Kelly and Mark With the unveiling of the news of Chewie’s death and told Consuelos that the couple had to put the white and brown shih Tzu.

“We had a difficult day yesterday. We had to say goodbye to Chewie yesterday,” he said, explaining that the couple came to their New York apartment for humane euthanasia at home.

“Chewie had stopped eating for a few days and had eaten less and less in the past few weeks. She was extremely dehydrated and let some neurological things go under,” said Consuelos. “And you think: ‘Okay, I’m doing the right thing, it won’t be easy, but …’ It’s probably one of the most difficult things we had to do as a married couple.”

“I know that animal owners can understand that at home,” he added. “It needs a pet owner to understand this kind of loss. It’s grief. It is really grief. But knowing that we did the right thing because it will be really, very bad for you in the next few days would. ”

Ripa and Consuelos got Chewie after Ripa met the dog for the first time during an adoption segment Live. “If it weren’t for this show, we wouldn’t know Chewie,” Consuelos remarked. “She grew up with our children.”

When he spoke, an visibly angry Ripa wiped tears and finally buried her head in her hands. “I know that they take it hard, so I will make the heavy lifting,” Consuelos said to his wife.

But Ripa wanted to speak and apologized to the audience for their tears.

“I’m really sorry. I thought I had everything out, people. I really thought I had everything out and I apologize because I didn’t want it to go down,” she said.

The Emmy winner achieved memories of Chewie. “She gave us so much,” said Ripa. “We are full of gratitude for this dog. … When each of our children went to college and pulled out alone, Chewie stayed right there. Our steadfast companion.”

“We were so lucky. We are very lucky in our lives. We had no loss in our life, an enormous loss like this. We still have all of our parents. We are so happy,” “Ripa” said. “I feel very bad in front of you when people have it – there are much bigger problems in the world, and I understand that. But you have to understand that this dog was something special and that she was such a great girl.”

The couple told Live For the audience they had received from friends, they received the news about Chewie’s death. “It was, I dared, the president,” joked Ripa. “People came like the mail wearer. People came to say goodbye to Chewie because she was such a popular member of the community. Not only our dog, she was like the dog in the neighborhood.”

Ripa then revealed what she did after Chewie’s death.

“She never let us kiss her face, she was very valuable on her face. She was not this dog,” recalled the talk show presenter. “And after she died last night, I kissed her on her face 1,000 times. I kissed her nose, I had never kissed her nose.”

“I know that she was somewhere in the dog sky, acidic,” joked Ripa. “But I didn’t care because it was just so nice to have that.”

Consuelos said: “You were a great dog mamin, she worshiped you.”

Chewie was one of two dogs in the Consuelos family. The Live Hosts are also pet parents of Lena, a Maltese/Shih Tzu mix that Ripa adopted in 2020.

In the past few weeks after LiveRipa and Consuelos have updated the spectators about Chewies Health. They explained that the sick dog could no longer run and had stopped behaving like them.

“We’ll get through that,” Consuelos said to a crying Ripa on Wednesday. “Everything together, we’ll get through it.”
