Iowa Football Alum George Kittle wins NFL Salute to Service Award

A former Hawkeye won the NFL Prize to honor a player who made “extraordinary efforts” to support the military community.

San Francisco 49ers Tight End George Kittle is the USA 2024 Salute to Service Award winner. Kittle will be recognized on Thursday at the NFL Honor’s ceremony in New Orleans, the home of Super Bowl 59.

All 32 teams nominated a player or member of their organization for the Salute to Service Award. The finalists for this year’s award were Minnesota Vikings, who declined Aaron Jones and Los Angeles Charger’s defensive End Morgan Fox.

“The fans were able to vote for their preferred candidates, and the finalists were ultimately decided on the basis of a consensus fan vote and an NFL -internal committee together with the USA,” said the press release of the 49. “The candidates were also evaluated on the positive effects of their efforts to support the military community, the type of service, the thoroughness of their support and their commitment.

Why did George Kittle receive the 2024 Salute to Service Award?

In the past six years, Kittle has donated more than 400 tickets to service members and, according to the press release, has created an app with free psychological health resources for veterans.

The 250,000 dollars from Iowa Tight End to military non -profit organizations and organizations that have been connected to the league since entering the league also contributed to his recognition.

“I am incredibly grateful and honest to be this year’s recipient of the Salute to Service Award,” said Kittle after receiving the award. “My appreciation for the military is based on the fact that my uncle Pat serves several tours with the National Guard and saw how much it influenced him and his family in overseas.”

“Without my family and their unshakable support, I would not be able to create these real and authentic relationships with the real heroes and those who should receive this award,” he said.

USA, insurance, a banking and other financial service provider for active and retired US military members and their families, will donate 25,000 US dollars to the official aid companies of all six military branches in honor of Kittle. The NFL Foundation will correspond to the donation from the USA of 25,000 US dollars that will be donated to Kittle’s Military Charity of Choice.

Has George Kittle previously won the 2024 Salute to Service Award of the NFL?

Although he was nominated three times by the 49s, this year was his first victory for the two-time all-pro.

Other remarkable recipients of the service award winner include Dan Quinn and John Harbaugh and the former players Charles Tillman and Jared Allen.
