A soil search was started to find potential wrecks from a Bering Air flight from Unalakleet, which did not arrive in Nome on Thursday afternoon, officers said.

“At the moment, air support is not available due to the weather and the frosting. So we are currently making ground efforts,” said Danielle SEM, spokeswoman for tribal-common Kawerak.

Flugrekorde showed that Bering Air Flight 455, a Cessna Caravan, flew at about 1,400 feet when he stopped his location around 3:20 p.m. It should arrive in Nome at 4:20 p.m.

The caravan is a main support in the fleet of Bering Air and seats up to nine passengers. In a statement, SEM said that there were 10 people on board.

SEM said that search parties from Nome and White Mountain were collected, but it was too early to confirm further details.

The Norton Sound Health Corporation has announced that it would prepare for a “medical emergency” of the community after a Bering Air flight from Unalakleet did not arrive in Nome on Thursday afternoon.

Reba Lean, spokesman for Health Corporation, said that the hospital had a place for family members in its conference room on the third floor.

From 6 p.m. Bering Air could not be reached for a comment.
