New York Islander provide the top defender for trade

Do New York Islander buy one of your best defenders? According to a new report by RG, the islanders weigh several options before the NHL trade period of 2025.

One of these options is whether the islanders should run the top defender Noah Dobson or not. The team’s best offensive defender has been a staple in the organization since his selection in the first NHL design of 2018. According to the NHL sources of RG, however, it can be traded in a trade in which the islands are improving their forward group.

“It is available for trade,” said the source. “And this is a piece of which the team is ready to separate in order to maintain this evaluation that it has wanted for three seasons.”

Dobson recently suffered an injury that has kept him away in the past few weeks. Injuries were over a thorn in his side throughout the season and limited him to 24 points in 46 games.

If the islanders try to move Dobson, this would be a massive shift. The 25-year-old has just recorded the best 70 points in his career last season and has three 40 points campaigns with the club in his six seasons. He played a total of 346 NHL games with the organization.

In the same RG report, the writer Jim Biringer mentioned a possible trade destination for the former all-star: the Vancouver Canucks. The islanders have shown interest in the Canuck Center Elias Pettersson, and the belief is that Dobson would be a piece of the package sent to Vancouver to acquire them.

Another important piece is Dobson’s contractual situation. He is in the last season of his current deal, which pays him $ 4 million annually. While he will be a restricted free agent at the end of the 2024-2025 campaign, it is due to a significant increase. If you have Dobson, you have to find a way to sign it for a new contract, and probably consider an annual salary north of $ 7 million.
