Moroccan authorities sell EU legislators

Saramo, Spain Isabel Serra and Portugal Catarina Martins argued that they had an “observation mission” to monitor the compliance with a present court to monitor agriculture and the fishing agreements between the EU and Morocco.

The MPs traveled personally because their visit was not an official mission organized by the left group or by the parliament, two civil servants announced.

In a judgment in October 2024, the EU Court of Justice faced the Polisario front of the Western Sahara, which appealed to annull trade agreements that made Morocco possible to export fish and agricultural products from the annexed area to the EU.

Morocco has long used sovereignty over Western Sahara, a coastal area in North Africa that was previously controlled by Spain. But the neighboring Algeria supports the Polisario front instead, a group that has fought for self-determination for the region for decades.

“We have a good connection to the Polisario, but also with other NGOs that we actually hit,” said Saramo.

“Morocco does not want us to see the human rights violations they commit to the western Sahara that they illegally occupy,” he added in a contribution on Instagram.
