“Blackout” Delta flight attendant stabbed colleagues: police officers

An “unconscious” Delta Airlines flight attendant has been charged with attempted murder after he drunkenly slashed the neck of a colleague at a New Orleans hotel, police said.

According to New Orleans police, 36-year-old Joshua Smith was with several co-workers when they noticed him acting “strangely” on his way back to the hotel around 3:15 a.m. Monday morning, according to New Orleans police announced.

An unnamed co-worker tried to escort Smith back to his room when an argument escalated and Smith slashed the woman’s arm and neck, a police news release said.

The woman then fled to another floor of the hotel, but Smith followed her.

According to police, a security guard jumped to help and Smith slashed his thumb.

The police did not provide any information about what weapon it was.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to police, Smith was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated assault and simple assault.

Smith’s attorney, Thomas Calogero, told NBC News that Smith and his colleagues had been partying all night in the Big Easy and the flight attendant had drunk so much that he didn’t even remember the violence.

“The group was drinking and he had lost consciousness,” the lawyer said. “He (Smith) has no recollection of the incident at all, nothing.”

“I don’t think there was any murder intent,” he added.

A Delta spokesman told WSB-TV that the airline “has no tolerance for violence against or among our people and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement.”
