“He is not up”: Demonstrators want Hakeem Jeffries to head an aggressive opposition to Trump

Hundreds of New York gathered outside the office of Rep. Hakeem Jeffries in Central Brooklyn. DN.Y., on Thursday, to demand that the minority leader the administration of President Donald Trump and his billionaire Füreiter, Elon Musk, energetic resistance.

“Hakeem Jeffries, where is the firewall? Where is your plan B? While Muschus and his musketeers digitally destroy our democracy, they keep talking. While our democracy is beheaded, they publish press releases, ”said Ken Scheles, organizer with a food and water station, in a speech. “I do not see you.”

The demonstrators gathered at noon for an hour, starting at noon, and demanded that Jeffiries and Congress Democrats refuse to vote for the upcoming Republican budget proposal and to use all the power levers available to spread the Federal Workforce by the government resist. Apart from the action, the demonstrators also expressed disappointment with communication from the leadership in the congress.

A demonstrator, Ed Goldman, said Salon that he was there to tell Jeffries that his “leadership of the opposition was weak”.

“Jeffries and the Democratic Party, which, unlike Trump, capitalized, is legalistic and formalistic. It is assumed that everything in the country in front of Trump was fine, pretty good, and if we only returned to where we were, it would be okay again, ”said Goldman. “I don’t think they are talking to the deep distrust of the government population.”

Charlie Worthheimer, another demonstrator, said, he hoped, “it is possible with enough pressure” that Jeffries could be moved to take more brave measures against the Trump government.

Another demonstrator who refused to name her name.

“I would like to see people who give a daily report every day and speak directly to people,” they said.

Outside of his office, people asked Jeffries to support the removal of New York Mayor Eric Adams, which seems to be prejudice, which means that they could be brought back at any time. In return, Adams seems to have promised to work with the Trump administration in relation to the priorities of the immigration enforcement.

Yona Zeitz, a representative director of the Catal Center for Equity, Health and Justice, which took part in the protest, said Salon that he was concerned about the Adams-Doj deal, which he described as a “strong pro-quo”.

“Adams has made it clear that he is not ready to protect New Yorkers-is ready to sell New Yorker,” said Zeitz. And so Jeffries should now demand his distance. “

In his part, Jeffries said at the beginning of this month that he was still “trying to find out what leverage we actually have” as Democrats in the minority and relating to the debate about the GOP household proposal.

“What levers do we have? The Republicans have repeatedly taught America – they control the house, the Senate and the Presidency. It is her government, ”said Jeffries at a press conference.

The democratic leader has proposed that his eye is on the 2026 midterms and how the Democrats can best position themselves in order to regain the congress.

In response to a request for a comment from Salon, Jeffries’ office pointed out comments that the minority leader on Wednesday evening on Meidastouch, a liberal website, made: “I think from the other side of the Ganges.”

“We not only have to agree with this intensity, but also exceed them through enlightened and fair intensity. We have the high ground on these topics,” said Jeffries and later added: “We still have to push back aggressively. It is an all-practical effort For the deck and it will require everyone, and every day, every month, every month, every month, we have to support ourselves with an intensity that gets through the first 100 days through the year, to the interim elections Coming.

(Russell Payne)So far, however, the Democrats are not satisfied with the performance of Jeffries and others in the democratic leadership, the protest on Thursday is only one example of this. A recently in Quinnipiac survey showed that the approval of the Congress Democrats was under water among democratic voters. 49% of the democratic respondents disapproved of how their performance and only 40% have expressed approval.

Molly Ornati, an activist with 350 Brooklyn Water, a local environmental organization, said Salon that she believes that the minority leader “would not present an energetic energy of resistance and outrage to what was going on”.

“He acts as if this is a normal part of the political process, if this is a violation of the constitution, federal laws, the separation of power, democratic principle – all the most important American values. He does not get up with the outrage that people wanted to see who want to see Democrats, ”said Orati.
