Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick Questions Lack of regulation for lottery couriers

The person who won the price of 83.5 million US dollars bought their ticket via an app called Jackpocket, a subsidiary of the sports gaming company Draftkings.

Austin, Texas-a Loto-Rosm Lottery Cards sold in Austin raises questions from a Texas leader on how third “lottery couriers” work in the Lone Star State.

“The conclusion is that if people have confidence in the lottery, we have to be sure that nobody has an advantage,” said Lt. Governor Dan Patrick in a video that was published on social media on Tuesday. “In this way, the lottery was not designed for the company.”

In the video, Patrick visits the winning business in the Rockwood Lane in North Austin, where the Lotto Texas winner with extra! Ticket worth 83.5 million US dollars was sold on Monday.

The winner bought the ticket with a lottery courier or a third-party service with which people can virtually buy state lottery cards. Then someone goes to a shop from the courier services and buy the tickets personally.

The person who won the price of 83.5 million US dollars bought their ticket via an app called Jackpocket, a subsidiary of the sports gaming company Draftkings. Patrick says that Draftkings also has the corner of the winner, so that he raises questions about regulations for couriers.

Lottery couriers have been working in Texas since 2016.

In a report by the state of Sunset Advisory Commission, which was published last spring, Lottery Courier Companies says “an unmistaked and controversial business model that now estimates an estimated 9 percent of the TLC (Texas Lottery Commission) drawing card sales”. This report also states that the Texas Lottery Commission was not proactive, how to regulate couriers.

During a hearing from the Senate Financing Committee last week, the legislators gave the leaders of the Texas Lotter Commission about how couriers work.

“You have important rules that we have for the Texas Lotto: cash, personally, in the facility. And yet you enable an organization that both can hurt. I do not understand how they do not wear.” I think you are obliged to stop this behavior, this action, “said Senator Bob Hall (R-EDGEOT).

Officials from the lottery commission stated that they are currently only regulating the inpatient, licensed shops in which tickets are sold. On Friday, the Commission applied for a statement from the General Prosecutor’s office and asked what authority she had about lottery.

The Senate of Texas approved the last legislative period for the ban on Lottery Courier Services, but died in the House of Representatives. Similar bills were submitted in this session.

In a statement on Wednesday, the coalition of Texas Lottery Couriers (CTLC) confirmed the winning ticket this week with Jackpocket, the state’s largest lottery service. The lucky figures were personally selected by the age -verified Texan, who ordered 10 tickets with the platform, the group said.

CTLC said the order for the winning ticket was set up by one person, not in the context of a mass purchase effort.

“CTLC members – Jackpocket, jackpot.com and Lotto.com – do not deal with the facilitation or fulfillment of mass purchase activities and support the ban on mass purchases,” said the group.
