Rating: ‘Suits la’ is flat and happy

“Suits La” is an outlet of “suits” – a kind of sequel, but it feels like a sea. Collect, spectators while trying to contact the spirit of “suits”. Can you feel it in the room with us? His fraternal jockeying? His fascination for sleeveless tops as office clothing for women? Perhaps it helps to look at a photo of one of his characters, keep the deception. Maybe hear the title song. Ooooohh. “Suits,” says Hello. “Suits” miss you.

And like a Seanse, “Suits La”, which has its premiere at NBC on Sunday, is an attempt to transform an unanswered question into a little money. One question is not the nature of mortality, but about the nature of hits: Why is a show becoming popular? Why did a series that was a decent USA from 2011 to 2019, in the summer of 2023 a Netflix sensation?

The truth is, nobody knows. If this were the case, you would do hits every time, and no show would be canceled early, and we would have sweets every day for dinner before bliss. But we live in the same world as the characters on “suits la” – who, in which nothing can be easily enjoyed; It has to be activated. Perhaps many “suits” fans will be completely satisfied with this conjunction.

Not all of us, because “suits la” is flat and happy. The original “suits” differed with its quick dialogue, its oversized sense of humor and exciting wall-to-wall lust, of which there is none. Instead of a brilliant little scam that stumbles into a law career under the direction of a seductive alpha, we have a generic Mad Cobr that growls within the first five seconds of the show, “My father went when I was very young and I never respected him. ” Fun! When does Meghan Markle come here? (She doesn’t.)

Our big dog here is Ted, played by Stephen Amell, whose voice and cadence of Gabriel Macht resembled, who played the high -spirited boss in the original and thus adds a little “suits”. Years ago, Ted was a public prosecutor who laid down MOB boys in New York. We see that this story unfolds in tedious flashbacks that contain the scenes with his slimy father and warm memories of his tender relationship with his brother, who has Down syndrome.

New York Ted played according to his own rules, and damn it, the beautiful women around him loved him for it. But something must have gone sideways, because in the present he is in a window office in Los Angeles, where he claims to be “a bad life in real life” because he is competitive. His subordinates, Rick (Bryan Greenberg) and Erica (Lex Scott Davis), compete for his attention and approval, which he largely holds back. Then his alleged beast stuart (Josh McDermitt) ruins everything by breaking up the company. If you thought that Ted was already grumpy, just wait.

Like its predecessor, “Suits La” does not start strongly, although the three episodes that were made available for the review are improved over time, since the top-class murder process of a celebrity customer is by far the most interesting action. There are worse things as a diet “good woman”.

The show created by the “suits” Mastermind Aaron Korsh, which became “Suits La”, was initially a talent agent – and was adapted to a spinoff “suits” after the original was blown up against Netflix. This may be the reason why the series is so blurred, which differentiates the role of entertainment lawyers from those of agents and managers. Perhaps there is dignity, the purpose, dramatic texture and a beating heart somewhere in the world of the entertainment law, but “Suits la” does not seem to know where there is something of it.

TED has a contempt for the premise of the Criminal Defense Act, which is difficult to analyze. Erica’s deal is that she doesn’t care about film or television. She can’t even say what a script is doing well, she says, not that it is really important. “The writer is never the one who calls the shots,” she says her put-upon Attattel Leah (Alice Lee). “The guy is with the money.” In this case, can someone please tell the man with the money that he should give this show a little more juice?

Ted and Stuart used to be like brothers, both say. But a real brother would say: “Stuart, tell me how you chose this beard. I want to understand. “Many wonderful shows are about terrible people, but usually these shows have something to say about the world that live in these characters or are very funny or very sexy or use their characters to criticize more subtle hypocrisy. Attention Erica: This is part of the way a script can be good.

None of this seems to be present at the beginning of “Suits La”. There are only the other seven girls at Sleepover who advertise things on the Ouija board – nothing actually happens.
