The first installment of the movie musical “Wicked” has reigned supreme, defying “both gravity and box office expectations” in its opening weekend, according to NBC.

Since its release on Friday, November 22, the film has made a massive debut worldwide, grossing $164 million. According to Variety, it is now the biggest domestic debut of a film based on a Broadway musical.

For those who don’t want to spend a fortune on movie tickets to rewatch the film or would rather watch the films in the comfort of their own home, you may be wondering when the musical will be available to stream.

What is the movie “Wicked” starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo on the theme of “The Wizard of Oz” about?

Based on Gregory Maguire’s acclaimed 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, it attempts to reimagine the land of Oz. It serves as a prequel to the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz.

According to the New York Theater Guide, the show is about two young witches: Elphaba, whose skin is green, and Glinda, who is blonde and beautiful.

“At first they don’t like each other, but soon they develop an unusual bond. The musical follows them since their childhood friendship and explains how Elphaba became the evil witch and Glinda the good witch,” explains the tour guide.

The musical adaptation premiered on Broadway in October 2003 with Idina Menzel as “Elphaba” and Kristin Chenoweth as “Glinda”.
