Gavin Newsom, Governor in California

Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, has instructed the state’s probation committee to investigate whether Erik and Lyle Menendez are an “inappropriate” public security risk if they were released from prison, where the siblings have spent decades for decades for the shotgun murders of their parents, said the governor in a teaser on Wednesday for his new Podcast.

The announcement takes place months after her lawyers had submitted a mercy application at Newsom’s office, and days after Los Angeles’ top prosecutor spoke out against a separate effort of the brothers who wanted to plunge their convictions.

In another attempt to secure their freedom, Erik (54) and Lyle (57) tried to reduce their life sentences without the possibility of probation by a process known as stress development.

In the teaser for the “This Is Gavin Newsom” Podcast “” According to the governor, experts in public security and forensic psychologists will investigate the risk assessment for the probation committee in order to determine whether the brothers are a threat to public security during publication.

The results of these investigations are handed over to the district prosecutor of Los Angeles, Nathan Hochman, said, said Newsom and to the judge of the Supreme Court of Los Angeles County, who is still in presence because of her comparison efforts.

“There is no guarantee of the result here,” said Newsom. “My office conducts dozens of and dozens of these mercy checks on a consistent basis, but this process simply delivers more transparency, which in my opinion is important in this case, and more Due Dilgence before I determine a determination for the terminals.”

Lawyers from the Menendez family, many of whom supported the release of the brothers, said in a statement on Wednesday that they were grateful for the governor’s comments.

“The family realizes that the governor’s action does not mean that he will commute the sentences,” they said. “Instead, this first step reflects the governor’s deliberate decision, at least to receive the information that is necessary to make a fair decision about whether Erik and Lyle did the hard work after 35 years in prison to have a chance of life outside of the prison.”

The brothers were arrested in March 1990, seven months after Jose and Kitty Menendez were fatally shot in their house in Beverly Hills.

The brothers first lied to the murders and said it had been a hit with the organized crime. In two exams in the 1990s, their defense team described the murders as a self -defense after years of sexual abuse by their father.

The public prosecutor has denied the claims for sexual abuse and said the motive was financially. They also pointed out the cold -blooded nature of the murders: After leaving the balls, Lyle wrapped his shotgun and shot his mother in the face in Point Blank.

The former district prosecutor of Los Angeles County, George Gascón, who was elected in November, said he supported the grace and the resentment of the brothers.

A two -day hearing to the latter efforts is planned for next month.
