US Pro Surfer brought a coma after an accident in Hawaii

A group of surfers, lifeguards and other affected people recently gathered around the American professional surf Makai McNamara after being beaten unconscious. McNamara was wiped out by a massive wave in the Banzai pipeline in Hawaii, which is widely considered one of the most dangerous surf breaks in the world.

According to Iceland News, McNamara was a frequent Banzai pipeline visitor and was hit by the Great Welle last Sunday. The group of responders mentioned above helped McNamara to achieve security on the bank.

Eli Olson, who also surfs professionally and is described as a friend of McNamara, said the ordeal was a “freak accident”.

“It was just a bad wave, a kind of freak accident, and he went primarily into the reef,” said Olson Island News. He also described McNamara as “one of the best (surfers) out there”.

Olson estimated that McNamara was under water for two minutes before someone could reach him. He also noted that the respondents tried “CPR compressions” during the rescue.

“He was under water for almost two minutes before I came to him. First of all, I just wanted to keep his head afloat so that he no longer took water,” said Olson. “I gave him a few breaths. Try to give him a few compressions.”

He added: “We are hit here by waves. We are recycled in the waves and then we got him in life first, made another round of CPR compressions and started to cough water.”

McNamara was finally able to regain awareness when he “brought him back to life,” said Surfer. McNamara was later taken to a local hospital in which medical staff put him in an induced coma for three days.

McNamara’s father Liam gave an update about his son’s status 24 hours after the shocking incident.

“It has been 24 hours since the incident and he is on his way to recovery,” he said in a video posted on Instagram. “He feels your energy. He feels your love. He feels your positive mood and we appreciate each of you for your support.”
