“If you play a team like Chelsea, you can only get the result,” said Leicester boss Amandine Miquel Sky Sport.

“The pressure is more on them so that they miss something. The state of mind was really important for the players to defend together.”

“We focused a lot on the defensive aspects. That definitely helped us in this last game of the first phase because we were really defensive. We were a team that conceded very few goals and we defended well in a block.

“So that was something that we built through the games to get against Chelsea because we knew that there was no pressure on us. We were lucky enough to score a big difference in one of our rare attacks, which made a big difference against Chelsea.

“And when they lead against Chelsea, the players are energy. It is so unusual, but I think this gives every player an elevator that leads against Chelsea and they want to keep it as long as possible, and we almost did it.”

Miquel’s side took the lead for a little more than 50 minutes against Chelsea. Missy Goodwin gave the Foxes an advantage before Chelseas reacted Wieke Kaptein late to claw back a point. It is crucial, however, that Leicester met the goal with her only shot.

“As we saw against Brighton, they are humans and sometimes they have a few moments when they are a little less focused or a little more or a little less run or the intensity is lower,” said Miquel.

“Then a team like my or a team among you in the table has to take advantage of these rare moments. But you are a strong team and I would say the entire squad because those who come in, and those who are not in are very good. Some of us would really be happy to bring them in our team to play for 10 minutes!”

Miquel discusses the WSL, which may have been scrapped the descent

“Whatever the team goes down this season, I would feel it unfair because I didn’t play a team that was lower or really doesn’t deserve to be in this league.

“The same thing, we played a few games against championship teams in the cup and I felt that they were really good.

“For me to have more teams or at least a few seasons without having this uncertainty of the team and going down again, it might allow them to invest more without this risk.”

Like Chelsea and the former Lyon boss Sonia Bombastor, Miquel took over this summer after spent seven years in Reims in France. Miquel with a bombastor from their clashes in France and is not shocked by their effect.

“Bombastor has a hatred for the defeat,” said Miquel to Sky Sport.

“Even draws, and it is unusual for them. Even if you lose a point for you, I think it takes three days for you to get back from it. So you are very angry about the first game.

“I expected that she did what she did because she trained Lyon, so we played her in similar situations with a great team with great people. And if you have this type of player and have a clear schedule and work the connections, it is much easier.”
