That’s when officers said Ruzzo, who was outside the home where the car stopped, shot at them. A man was hit multiple times.

When shots were fired, the victims drove away in the car. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening; He was treated at hospital and released.

As investigators began to look deeper into the shooting, they learned that Ruzzo had had dinner with people at the house earlier that evening. They noticed a white car driving recklessly on their street.

Witnesses say Ruzzo confronted the people in the car, after which the people in the vehicle threw a drink at the family, according to officers.

An hour later, the same white car drove slowly past the house, according to deputies. According to Ruzzo, he told witnesses he saw the people in that white car pointing a gun at the family.

Shortly afterwards, witnesses reported a car stopping in front of the house. According to LCSO, the car was not the same as before. It was the car with the victims that Ruzzo had shot.

After shots were fired, Ruzzo told officers he shot at the car in self-defense.

Investigators found bullet casings and broken glass on the road, indicating damage to the car. There were no firearms, weapons or spent shell casings in the victim’s car, officials say.

Ruzzo was arrested once for shooting into an occupied vehicle and once for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

“The safety of our Lee County residents is my primary concern. “I am incredibly proud of the 2nd District deputies and my violent crimes detectives who worked through the night on this case,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including holidays, LCSO is here to answer the call.”
