Penn State wins 2025 Big Ten Wrestling Championships

Evanston, Ill. – Penn State won the title 2025 Big Ten Wrestling Championships with a team score of 181.5 on Sunday. The Nittany Lions received their ninth big ten championship crown as a whole and in the third title in a row. Penn State won five individual titles by Luke Lilledahl (125), Tyler Kasak (157), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165), Levi Haines (174) and Carter Starocci (184).

Nebraska took second place with 137 points, followed by Iowa in Iowa with 112 points. Minnesota finished fourth with 108.5 points and Illinois rounded off the top 5 with 105.5 points.

The Starocci of Penn State was appointed Big Ten Wrestler of the Year, Minnesotas Gable Steveson was appointed the most outstanding wrestler of the championships, while teammate Max Mcenelly received the big ten Freshman of the Year. Cael Sanderson was appointed for the third time in a row and a total of ninth coach of the year Big Ten of the Year.

The newcomer in Penn State, Lilledahl, called for the Big Ten championship with £ 125 after a 4: 3 decision against Caleb Smith in Nebraska. Illinois’ Lucas Byrd earned his first championship with 133 pounds and celebrated (3:16) Drake Ayala from Iowa.

With £ 141, Brock Hardy in Nebraska took a fall (1:59) via Minnesotas Vance Vance Vombaur. Huskers’ Ridge Lovett rose 1-0 by Michigan in Austin Gomez to successfully defend his 149 pound title. At 157, Kasak made a 12-2 decision on Brandon Cannon in the state of Ohio to take the belt home.

Mesenbrink successfully defended his title with a 4-1 decision against Iowas Mike Caliendo with 165. Haines became a three-time Big Ten champion, which after a 12-1 decision on Nebraskas Lenny Pinto with £ 174. Nittany Lion teammate Starocci became a three-time big ten champion with an 8: 5 victory against Minnesotas Max Mcenelly with a sudden victory in Minnesota.

Jacob Cardas became Michigan’s first champion since 2021 with the 4-2 decision against Iowas Stephen Buchanan. Gopher’s Steveson ended the evening with a 10: 3 victory against Greg Kerkvliet von Penn State at 285 to become the second four-time big ten champion of the program and to join Verne Gagne (1944-49) in the record books.
