Doyle said Ortega-Torres owed a murder.

The indictment arose on the murder of 44-year-old Justin Sloan Sr. from Meriden on July 8, 2023.

The Merid police said they answered a call about a stabbing on Hannover Drive. They reported that they found that Sloan suffered from several stab wounds. He was later declared dead.

Doyle said that an investigation showed that Ortega-Torres followed the victim in a vehicle.

The vehicles of both Ortega-Torres and Sloan were captured on nearby surveillance cameras and showed that Ortega-Torres followed the victim when he drove to his house in Meriden.

When the victim arrived in his house, Doyle said that Ortega-Torres confronted him when he got out of his vehicle. Then he stabbed the victim several times and then left the scene.

Witnesses said they saw two people standing in front of a vehicle. They said when one person bleeded into the ground, the other person entered a vehicle and fled.

Ortega-Torres returned home, where he hid his vehicle and the clothes he was wearing, said Doyle. The investigators used monitoring cameras to identify him as well as his car, his clothes and other evidence that were recovered by his house.

The investigation led the police to a house in Meriden, in which the officials of Ortega-Torres, who refused to leave his home, met with an hour-long patting situation and questioned “the legality of the investigation and the presence of civil servants” before he revealed himself to the police.

Ortega-Torres is to be sentenced to 25 years in prison on May 8, 2025.
