Cal Fire Releases updated cards with a forest fire risk in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura Counties in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura

Los Angeles (KABC) – Cal Fire released updated cards on Monday, showing where forest fires are most likely to appear over the next few decades.

The risk of risk on the cards is divided into three categories: moderately, high and very high. The factors used to determine the severity include topography, fire weather, flame length, past of fire history, vegetation type and the likelihood of a running fire.

The urgency to publish the updated cards comes from an Executive order signed by Governor Gavino Newsom last month according to the destructive palisades and Eaton fires in January.

“This map and the risk of fire really only match the conditions that our fire brigade has been experiencing for several years,” said chief Daniel Berlant, California State Fire Marshal, at the beginning of this month.

Effects on firefighters

Another element of these destructive forest fires is the potentially harmful chemicals that firefighters are exposed to in the fight against the flames.

A currently ongoing study should determine whether the firefighters who fought against Eaton and Palisades have endangered their long -term health and tested several hundred firefighters in order to monitor their exposure to cancer -friendly chemicals.

Researchers with the Wildfire Conservancy and the University of Arizona are planning to use the data collected to compare the firefighting team with the firefighting teams in New York City on September 11, 2001.

The Supervisor of Los Angeles County, Kathryn Barger, is expected to have media availability among firefighters on the effects on fire protection measures and local communities.
