UC Berkeley International Students advised not to leave the United States in the middle of immigration studies

According to the Berkeley International Office, international students, faculties and UC Berkeley employees will not get out of the country.

“The current US immigration policy is unpredictable and is subject to a quick change”, the advice published by the organic countries. “If you currently maintain and leave a student, scholar or employee immigration status in the USA, Bio cannot guarantee what could affect your USVISA status in good time to return to the USA in good time.”

Several students from the International House of UC Berkeley, a multicultural residential center on the campus, stated that they received an e -mail that informed them about the travel consultant.

Xiangrui, who moved to the USA with a student visa from China in 2019, recently started his doctorate at UC Berkeley.

“At the moment I will simply stay in California,” he said on Monday.

While Xiangrui is allowed to stay and study in the United States, he is not sure whether he can get back in when he goes. While Xiangrui’s form I-20 is still valid, its F-1 student visa has expired.

A form I-20 is a certificate for authorization that proves that someone has been approved in a recognized school.

Someone with an expired F-1 visa may stay in the USA, as long as they maintain the status of the students, according to the US immigration and customs authority (ICE).

However, if someone returns home where an automatic re -evaluation does not apply – including China – ice states are required to return a valid visa to return.

“If I have to renew it, I have to go and come back. For Chinese citizens, they will sometimes carry out background reviews and only give me a visa for a year, which it is not quite worth,” said Xiangri. “It is a complicated problem (with) the current political climate, especially … I only feel a bit frustrated, but (I’m) still okay because I can still study.”

Bio rejected an interview with CBS News Bay Area.
