“One of them Days” celebrates black communities, shakes the genre of the buddy comedy genre

Keke Palmer and Sza have an incredible chemistry in “One of you Days” and bring a refreshing view of the buddy comedy genre. Two best friends and roommates, Dreux and Alyssa, are on the mission to earn enough money for rent before the day ends after Alyssa’s friend stole it.

It is a must that pays homage to the film “Friday” from 1995 and broke the ground at the box office. The film was produced with a budget of $ 14 million and has now spread over 50 million US dollars at the box office and has a critic of 94% for rotting tomatoes. It is also one of the first sitcoms since the sitcom “B*A*P*s” from 1997 with two black female leads.

The film is also supported by the production company of Issa Rae, ColorCreative, which has worked with Sony. The film was written by a black woman, Syreeta Singleton, and staged by a black man, Lawrence Lamont. Palmer also worked together at the production of the film and worked with Rae on the project.

Palmer and Sza have a remarkable connection on the screen that is life in the film. Alyssa, played by Sza, is a free spirit, a broken artist with a terrible friend and lots of love for her best friend Dreux, played by Palmer. Dreux is a hard -working planner who tries to penetrate the company world. The two best friends are opposites, a classic component of the Buddy comedy genre.

Palmer is an experienced veteran and a power package in the industry with experience that is aligned, acts and makes music. She even published a memoir in 2024.

She is also absolutely funny. There is a certain magic about Palmer’s performance as a Dreux, who crosses the screen and feels as if she was everyone’s funny best friend. Each line Palmer delivers incredibly well, since it even delivers the blunt lines of the script with a comedic genius.

With Palmer, who together with Palmer, Sza made her debut on the screen in the film. In an interview with the Faderpalmer, it was first occupied, with the SZA network then proposed.

As soon as the rehearsals started, it was obvious for Lamont and the crew that Sza was perfect to play Alyssa. They were right because they can assert themselves next to Palmer and add a softer energy with the free spirit of Alyssa. She is warm and gingering on the screen, but the charisma between her and Palmer brings her performance to a well -made, funny first appearance in the film industry.

Under the surface of Palmer and Sza’s appearances there is a film with a social comment and celebration of the black culture and shows the cycle of poverty. The film takes place in South Los Angeles and was shot in the jungle, the actual place of the script.

Rae announced how difficult it was to film in the jungles, and detailed how the crew met with gangs and had to create the film during the California forest fires. The film in the area in which the script takes place was important for Rae and Singleton, the author of the original script.

Rae spoke with the loan about why it was important for her, singleton and the crew to film on site.

“You can’t do this story, at least in my eyes and in La native, without shooting in these districts,” said Rae. “We have real background actors who came from the neighborhood, and we were able to patronize the shops in the area. And it essentially only felt something special.”

Palmer supported this feeling in an interview with NBC and discussed the social comment that was mixed with the funny joke of the film.

“Yes, ok, we have friendship during the Hijink’s friendship and the people are crazy, but it’s like:” Wait a minute, there is a cycle of poverty here and it is actually really difficult to work up, “said Palmer.

“One of them Days” is a well-made addition to the buddy comedy genre with two incredible black female leads that make the film what it is. The film’s film takes place in Southern LA and manages to illuminate the effects of poverty and gentrification on black communities. The film also celebrates marginalized voices and shows the connections that exist in impoverished communities.

Although not yet on streaming platforms, the film can be rented or bought on Prime Video, Apple TV or YouTube TV.
