NHL Playoff classification: The last one for the Detroit Red Wings?

At the beginning of the NHL season 2024-25, some predicted that the Detroit Red Wings-with one of the proudest stories among the 32 clubs of the league-IHRE would bring triumphal return to the after season field.

Although they remain mathematical in the race with less than two weeks, their chances become slimmer every day.

On Friday evening they organize the Carolina Hurricanes (7 p.m. ET, ESPN+) With the chance to get closer to the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers, who have planned the last place for wildcards in the past few days.

While the games get going, the 75 points of the Red Wings six are behind the Canadia and their 26 regulatory gains are connected to Montreal.

Dylan Larkin & Co. becomes more difficult after the game against the Canes. Their remaining schedule functions only Games against teams that are currently in the playoff position: The Florida Panthers Two Taly, Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs. Perhaps the teams who have won a playoff base take a proverbial foot from the accelerator pedal, but this is not exactly an ideal locking plan for a team that looks into the playoffs on the outside.

But if the red wings want to run a run, a victory on Friday (at least emotionally) will go a long way to get support. Can you do it?

With the regular season until April 17th, we will help you to follow everything with the NHL Playoff Watch. While we cross the last route, we will specify all playoff races together with the teams looking for position in the NHL -Draft lottery from 2025.

Note: Playoff chances are on stathlets.

Race for No. 1 selection

The NHL uses a lottery design to determine the order of the first round. Therefore, the team that ends in the last place is not guaranteed to select number 1. From 2021, a team can rise a maximum of 10 spots if the lottery wins, so that only 11 teams are justified for No. 1 selection. You can find complete details about the process here. Matthew Schaefer, a defender of the Otters of the Ohl, is number 1 in the Draft board.
