Gamethread: Twins on White Sox

After a 9-0 win yesterday, the White Sox (2: 2) will try to replicate this performance if you compete against the Minnesota twins in the second game of the series.

In the first four games of the season, the start -pitching was the greatest story for the White Sox. All four starter-sean Burke, Jonathan Cannon, Davis Martin and Martín Pérez-Hatten impressive in the fact that they were not performed by a single run that was only done four times, and not since the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019. And to dominate it on Monday, Pérez dominated by six no-hit ininings and tied shepherds from NineOuts.

The 24-year-old Righthander Shane Smith, who was usually recorded 5 of the Milwaukee Brewers, will give his MLB debut on the south side this evening. Of course, he will also take up the additional pressure to keep the 0.00 era strip on life. In spring training, Smith seemed a 3.38 ERA in four starts (10 2⁄3 innings) together with a whip of 0.844 with 10 strikes and four walks. The batteries only met .143 against him and he gave up four runs of five goals. Smith’s Fastball sits in the mid-1990s and can reach 97-98 miles per hour, and it is probably also his best field, although he still has some solid off-speed parking spaces with his curve ball and slider.

Sure, it may be a small sample size so far, but it is certainly on the right track and has shown that he has what it takes to compete in the big leagues. Welcome to the show, Shane!

Ideally, the good ones can keep the bats hot and Smith offer the run support he needs. Andrew Benintendi was the top grille so far and mixed two homes and six RBIs in his first 13 bats. While he is connected to Miguel Vargas and Luis Robert Jr. with the highest BA (only .231), his 1.025 ops tells a much better story.

Simeon Woods Richardson will start his first start of 2025 for the twins who spent his first year in the majors last season. In 133 2⁄3 Innerings in 2024, Richardson scored a 4.17 ERA and a whip of 1.29 – 117 batters with a ratio of 2.44 K/BB.

On the other side of the ball, Minnesota fought as a team to start the season. At the moment they are recently at all 30 MLB teams and have only reduced 0.143/.206/.230 with the lowest ops (.436). Twins Slugger Byron Buxton is only 1-for-13 (.077 BA), and Shortstop Carlos Corroa has not yet scored a hit in 2025. Willi Castro was the bright spot for the twins.

It will be cold in Chicago, the temperature on the first field is about 42 °, and luckily it should be largely dry!

If your antenna works, you can catch the action at 6.40 p.m. CT in the Chicago Sports Network (CHSN) or possibly in the MLB TV if you are in a different state and are not darkened. And as always, Len Kasper and Darrin Jackson will be in the radio show at ESPN Chicago on 1000.
