According to the analyst, Profi’s slow game led to the collapse of Rory Mcilroy’s Masters

The opening round of the 2025 Masters offered another issue of Rory Mcilroy’s lost fight with Augusta National. In dispute, McIlroy collapsed late with a chip in the water and two double bogeys to fall down the ranking. After the round, the TV analyst Paul McGinley found the slow game of another player as a catalyst for Rory collapse.

After a big ride in the Par-5 15th hole on Thursday, McIlroy was sitting near the top of the ranking. There is little doubt that he had imagined to make another red number to continue his ascent towards the lead.

But Rory’s second shot went over the green. Then the disaster hit. Mcilroy’s next chip had too much juice and he rolled all the way across the smooth putting surface and into the water that protects the front of the green. Rory then had to return to the other side of the danger to hit his fifth shot. The end result? A devastating double bait 7.

Another double bogey followed shortly afterwards at the Par-4 17th and McIlroy finally signed for an even par 72.

The way McGinley sees it was an obvious guilty for Mcilroys 15th perforated collapse: a loss of concentration caused by slow play.

McGinley’s attitude to Mcilroys error

McGinley is a former captain of the European Ryder Cup and four-time European Tour winner and now plays the role of the Golf TV analyst for Sky Sports. And on Thursday evening he concentrated his master segment on McIlroys Chaos.

In the video, McGinley argued that the seeds for Rory’s problems were planted on Thursday when she needed partner Akshay Bhatia “Early to play his shot” after he had reached his own approach to the water on 15th. He claimed that a significant distraction lost Mcilroy to lose the focus.

“I think he was distracted. It took a long time until he played this pitch shot. His play partner Akshay Bhatia put his second in the water. He needed forever to play his shot – he took about 10 exercise fluctuations,” said McGinley on Sky Sports, as crossed by Golfwrx.com. “So it took a long time. Then B landed his ball in Rory’s line, so he had to wait for him to go around the lake to mark his ball. Then he had to wait for the players to go off the 16th. So he waited five minutes to play his shot.”

But McGinley also quickly made it clear that he did not believe that Bhatia or another player was ultimately responsible for Rory’s Doppel -Bogey.

“(McIlroy) is such a faster player – he wants to continue with it. He was distracted. I accuse Bhatia or the players from 16.” Said McGinley.

Instead, McGinley Mcilroy’s shoulders blamed exactly and argued that “big champions” find a way to maintain concentration, no matter what happens on the course.

“For a player who likes to play quickly, it was a drop in concentration. And that’s what great champions don’t do. And I am sure that the 17th was a legacy of it.”

After his disappointing 72 on Thursday, McIlroy will start the second round of the Masters seven shots behind Leader Justin Rose on Friday.

The rest of Bhatia’s round was very different from that of Rory. Bhatia managed to save Bogey to 15, and he stumbled three birdies in a row to end an opening round 70.
