Iowa Hawkeyes, Kirk Ferentz will receive tough transfer portal messages on Wednesday

You win some and lose some in the transfer portal -era, and that was always the case on the recruitment route. Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa Hawkeyes found it hard on Wednesday.

Cornerback Kahlil Tate has entered the transfer portal. He will play college football elsewhere next autumn.

Now it is of course worth pointing out that it will be the first season of his career if he plays next season. What loses iowa in Tate? It is difficult to know, because in two seasons in Iowa City he accumulated exactly statistical statistics for 2024, which are mentioned as an academic all-Big Ten player.

What we have to go on is potential, and it is worth noting that Tate came to Iowa City with an interesting potential as a 3-star security from Chicago, Illinois.

He played Cornerback and Wide Receiver from the Kenwood Academy, but had to play security at College level.

“Has played in the slot, outside and at times and can continue these roles as nickel or hybrid. Size and versatility are two of its main goods, 247Sports Scout Allen Trieu wrote in 2022.

This is an assessment of what Tate could do in the high school, and at least in Iowa City it has apparently never translated into the season. A red shirt as a newcomer is not unusual, but since Tate in 2024 does not play at all, it is no wonder that he has decided to transfer.

Whether Ferentz and Iowa employees had larger plans for Tate in 2025 or not is now a controversial point because he will try to find his potential elsewhere. There is difficult news because maybe he could have found it out in Iowa City. It’s always a nice surprise.
