H-1B worker, green card holder, listen! Immigrants in the United States must now wear IDs at any time

A new federal rule in the United States could have a dramatic impact on millions of immigrants – both undocumented and those who live legally of work, students or travel visa. According to this guideline, every non-state member over 18 years must now have proof of registration regardless of the visa status.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) emphasized in a strongly formulated explanation: “All non-citizens from the age of 18 have to transfer this documentation at any time. This administration has instructed DHS, the enforcement of prioritization-no sanctuary will exist for non-income.”

The rule, which works on April 11, follows a judgment of the district court, which the path of the Trump administration to enforce the long-hidden law on alien registration, a law of the First World War II-EA, which prescribes all non-state members in the United States for more than 30 days by the Federal Government. Unserving can lead to fines, prison terms or even deportations.

Who is affected?

The rule is mainly on undocumented immigrants, with DHS estimates representing the number of illegal Indian immigrants in the United States on 220,000 people. However, other estimates indicate a higher area: Pew Research Center quotes up to 700,000, while the Migration Policy Institute estimates around 375,000.Read too: Stay in the USA for over 30 days? Register or let yourself be in immigration lawyers who are already legally in the USA with H-1B working visa, student visa (F-1) or people with green cards, employment authorization documents (EADS) or I-94 approval documents that are already being regarded as “registered”. The catch, however, is that you now always have to prove this registration.

Stricter compliance rules

Even registered people have new compliance requirements. For example:

  • Children who become 14 must register and submit fingerprints within 30 days of their birthday.
  • Each address change must be reported within 10 days, since individuals may be exposed to up to 5,000 US dollars in fines or 30 days in prison.
  • Failure can also threaten the ability to stay in the United States or to reorganize after travel abroad.

DHS secretary Kristi Noem repeated the message: “Foreigners who have been in the United States for more than 30 days have to register by April 11th. This is not optional – it is the law.”

She added: “President Trump and I are clear – who should leave here illegally. If you go voluntarily, you may still have the opportunity to legally return. But we will all enforce laws. We have to know who is in our country – for the safety of every American.”

Legal setback and Fallout

The regulation was quickly pursued by a preliminary final rule of DHS and USCIs on March 12 after the Executive Ordinance of Trump, who was signed on January 20, entitled “Protecting The American Ve People against Invasion”.

Several groups for immigrant rights – including the coalition for humane immigrant rights and the American immigration council – have created a lawsuit and argued that the rule violates the administrative procedure law by implementing the procedures for public feedback.

Nevertheless, the US district judge Trevor N. McFadden, a Trump representative, decided against her application to block the rule and explained that the plaintiffs had a sufficient legal position.

Serious consequences

The most serious consequences will probably fall on undocumented immigrants. If you are forced to register you, you will be put on Bundesradar, which increases the risk of detention or deportation. But even legal immigrants are now exposed to constant documentation and an increased examination.

The rule signals a stricter era of enforcing immigration, in which the compliance is not only encouraged – it is mandatory. And for the millions of immigrants who live in the United States, the message is clear: wear your papers – or face the consequences.
