Air passengers without real IDs can be delayed while traveling

In the quick deadline for real IDs, many Americans are hurried to maintain important new identification, even if travel issues could be in front of us.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has published a press release in which the Americans commemorate the deadline on May 7 and at the same time warn of delays.

“Passengers who present a state-based identification that is not real ID-compliant and have no other acceptable alternative (e.g. passport) can expect to have delays, additional screening and the opportunity not to be approved in the security control point,” says the press release.

Air travelers at domestic airports have to present a real ID to fly.

The TSA spokeswoman Lory Dankers told Fox News Digital that the agency estimates that “81% of the public is ready for the real enforcement of the ID”.

A TSA spokesman said that about 20% of Americans are not prepared for the real ID period that emerges. (TSA)

“This may leave 19% unprepared,” said Dankers.

When asked whether the implementation of real IDs has the travel times affect travel times, Dankers said: “If you carry out mathematics, the reasonable answer would arrive early.”

“The length of the delay experience is determined by the number of other travelers who have no real ID-compliant registration information or another form of the identification accepted by TSA,” added the spokesman.

Gary Leff, a travel industry expert in Texas and author of the blog “View from the Wing”, told Fox News Digital that he would not expect that there will be “sensible delays”, but it will affect travel times.

Leff says: “If additional identity reviews have to be run through, even call another TSA employee to handle time.”

“Take an additional 10 seconds per passenger without a real ID (or 10 seconds per passenger, while the document tester checks the type of ID) and multiply them over thousands of passengers per day at larger airports,” said Leff.

He continued: “This could become a sensible bottleneck.”
