Calhoun’s police officer shot on Buc-ee’s incident Local news

UPDATE: Tony Pyle, chief of police from Calhoun, says the man who shot the officials was to Buc-Ee’s by kidnapping a woman and a 10-year kidnapping.

Pyle says that the suspect Robert Smith went to a woman in Atlanta and held her with a gun held up to go to Nashville. She also started the journey with a ten -year -old on board.

Around 4:00 a.m. at Buc-EE’s in Calhoun, they made a Pitstop at Buc-EE in Calhoun, where the woman hid in a bathroom.

The woman was finally able to alert an employee at BUC-EE to call the police.

When the police arrived, they tried to captivate Smith with handcuffs that escaped to a police officer in Calhoun and fired shots. The officer was not injured and did not fire his weapon.

Smith then stole a truck and fled Calhoun police.

“It was handled as well as possible,” said Chief Pyle.

Smith continued on Interstate 75 in the stolen vehicle, with the MPs of Whitfield County being pursued. He shot several shots from the car window, but did not hit MPs.

Soon afterwards the vehicle lost control. It was later found that Smith had died of a self -inflicted gunshot wound.

According to Pyle, Smith came from the Chattanooga region, but visited Atlanta and Nashville.

“At this point there is no immediate danger or threat to the public, and if possible, further information will be published,” says Whitfield County’s office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation supports the investigation.
