Commerce City police searching for person who threw dog out of car

DENVER (KDVR) — Commerce City police are searching for the person who threw a dog out the window of their moving car on November 23, fracturing its spine.

Police said a good Samaritan witnessed the incident nearly a week ago at the intersection of East 64th Avenue and Monaco Street around 7:45 p.m.

The witness attempted to help the dog before police arrived on scene. Officers took him to an emergency vet’s office, where they learned the dog’s spine was fractured.

“This is disgusting and heartbreaking and we urgently need your help,” police said on Facebook.

Because the dog was in pain and unable to move, it was euthanized.

“The person or people responsible for this horrific act will be charged with aggravated cruelty to animals,” the police department posted on Facebook. “Please, if you can, help us find her.”

In a comment response, the agency said the witness was so shaken to see the dog thrown out the window that he was unable to obtain a vehicle description or license plate number.

Additionally, surveillance footage recovered from a nearby business shows the incident “right in the corner” of the video footage, making it impossible to tell which vehicle the dog was thrown from because there was traffic at the time.
