Alexander Zverev’s offer to complete a hat trick with titles at the BMW Open BY Bitpanda received on Wednesday afternoon in Munich.

The top seeds prevailed in an all-German fight against Daniel Altmaier with the newly improved Clay Court Atp 500 with 6: 3, 6: 2, where he has now dropped only 10 games in his first two games. According to Infosys ATP statistics, Zverev converted four out of six fragments, which he deserved against Altmaier, which ultimately sealed the victory in 80 minutes.

“Only the victory (made me happy),” said Zverev. “He makes it complicated. He has already beaten many top players. He (Jannik) beat Sünder, he has already hit me, so he knows how to do it.

This week, Zverev aimed to reach Philipp Kohlschreiber’s record of three titles in Munich. The number 3 in the PIF ATP ranking, Zverev, triumphed in the Bavarian city in 2017 and 2018, although his victories against Alexandre Muller and Altmaier won successive games for the first time since his title run in 2018.

“They were completely different games,” said Zverev when he was asked what he could improve from his first two rounds in Munich. “In the first round against Alexandre I felt the ball very well on the floor. He gave me an incredible rhythm.

“Daniel does not give you a rhythm at all. I might have played a little worse today, but I better served today, I got a little better today and found solutions a little better. So there are many positive aspects and I’m looking forward to Friday.”

After a few difficult months in which he has been running since the Australian Open Finales 6-6, Zverev will hope that his excellent opening achievements in Munich will be a sign of the upcoming things. The 23-time master at tour level will hope to keep his form in the quarter-finals on Friday when he competes against Tallon Griekspoor. The Dutch later defeated Wild Card Yannick Hanfmann 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Everything adds up

The second seed Ben Shelton also experienced a comfortable victory in the second round on Wednesday. The American LinFty distanced Botic van de Zandschulp 7-6 (1), 6-3, to reach his second quarter-finals at Tour level on Clay after he was in 2024 Houston Title Run.

Shelton, who saved three match points before he predominated in the first round Borna Gojo, won 83 percent (33/40) points behind his first surcharge in his first meeting of Lexus ATP Head2head with van de Zandschulp. With his victory, the 22-year-old became the youngest American quarter finalist in Munich because the former Jim Courier in the World No. 1 reached the same stage at the age of 19 in 1990.

Shelton will play Luciano Darderi in the past eight years after having met in the opening quarter-finals of the day in the Iphitos Tennis Club. The Italian secured his seventh win in a row at the tour by walking past Miomir Kecmanovic 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Darderi was 2-8 for 2025 after his second round in Miami last month, but has reached a final of the ATP Challenger Tour in Naples since then, increased his second ATP tour trophy in Marrakech and now won his two games in Munich.
