Yankees’ Anthony Volpe knows the obvious reason why he is in another bad slump

Tampa, Fla. -With Anthony Volpe, who looked like a modern Ozzie Smith on Friday evening, the Yankees Shortstop had another rough night on the plate, while he flashed a fantastic defense in a 1-0 win against the Rays.

Once again, Volpe does not hit average. Now he also beats higher than ever, and that says something.

Yes, in the first 20 games of the Yankees there were occasional adaptations of the Yankees, in which the adaptations of the offseason from Volpe will achieve a large payout, but the early great production with power has turned into many recent battles.

World Series opportunities: Yankees, Mets jostle to put down Dodgers

Volpe’s great game in the hole and sensational relay throw on the third basis was very important for the victory on Friday, but its average decline of less than 0.200 with a 0 to 4 night on the plate, which contained three other strikes.

Volpe has four Homer and 15 RBI, but he beats .197. In his last 11 games he is 3 against 34 with 15 ks.

What’s going on this time?

It is not a mystery.

“I just miss parking spaces,” said Volpe.

He misses pitches that he should beat.

It is good that he does his chase by not swinging many parking spaces from the plate, but it is worrying that errors transform the parking spaces with weak or no contact into many outs.

In the game on Friday, Volpe had seven fluctuations and a foul tip that was trapped in four bats.

In the second inning, Rayy Righty Rasmussen met him on three parking spaces that should have been crushed, first a sink, the Polpe, and then two fast balls that led to a swing and a failure.

The next time. Volpe again looked over the plate with Rasmussen three fast balls, he swung all of them, and the best thing he could do was to put the last in the catcher glove.

With Lefty Garrett Cleavinger in the sixth, Volpe took off a called strike and exhibited a sinker who was just giving a 95.5 mile groundball at Shortstop Taylor Walls, who effortlessly set it up and threw it in the first place.

Polpe had a competitive seven-pitch fat against Hunter Bigge in the ninth after he swung and missed fast balls that were strikes. But after a foul on a head-high fastball, Ball One on an outer slide, another foul on a 100 mile heater and Ball Two the Rays reliever won the battle.

Bigge probably wanted his 2-2 slider to run down, but he came through with the letters when Volpe swung and missed again.

Always even Kiel, Volpe, summarized his battles as he usually does.

“Work on,” he said.

It is still very early, but Volpe beat 24 times in 83 record appearances. This leads to a 28.9 strike rate, which is higher, he improved to 22.6 last season before climbing again this year.

There are positive ones this season.

His walking rate is the top 12 percent, compared to 6.1 last season and 8.7 in 2023.

His .724 ops is far above what it has been in the past two years .666 in 2023 and .657 in ’24.

The best of everything is that he is at speed for 32 Homer and 122 RBI. The Yankees would take this type of production safely.

However, Volpe has really messed up lately and he knows that that has to change.

“I keep saying it,” said Volpe. “When I get a field of damage, I have the feeling that I have to do damage.”
