Voice of America ordered to be restored after judge Trump’s cuts blocked

On Tuesday, a federal judge blocked the Trump government’s initiative, Voice of America and other intelligence services financed by the government.

Judge Royce Lamberth said that the Trump administration has “no method or approach” to close the US agency for global media, the parent agency of the VOA. He ordered the USAGM to restore hundreds of employees who had been brought on vacation and to continue working as before.

“It is difficult to find out a simpler display of arbitrary and moody actions than the actions of the accused here,” said the judge on Tuesday.

Judge Lamberth granted the applicant, journalist Paty Widakuswara and her colleagues an injunction against Lake Kari, the reigning CEO of the USAAGM, via CBS News. The judge ordered the government to bring VOA employees back to work so that they can “offer messages that are consistently reliable and decisive, accurate, objective and comprehensive”.

The decision of Tuesday occurs after President Trump signed an executive order last month, in which several federal authorities, including the USAGM, which supervised the Voice of America and Radio Free Europe.

The executive order called for the freezing of government agents for USAGM and other organizations and led to a slowdown with the USAGM production. Judge Lamberth said that the organization was now unable to fulfill its prescribed functions because it was reduced to an office in Cuba in 33 people in Cuba.
