Howell leads day 1 at Lake Hartwell Bassmaster Elite

April 24, Anderson, SC -After Randy Howell has trapped a five-fish bass border with a weight of 21 pounds, 11 ounces, he leads the tournament of the Bassmaster Elite Series on Lake Hartwell after the first of four competition days. The anchoring of his leading weight was a 7-pound kicker with a 7-year-old, the greatest bass that was caught by every competitor that day.

“Such fish are unicorns, and I know that they are from above, God above,” Howell said to the bassmaster Elite series Dave Mercer after weighed the giant bass. “And hopefully we’ll get some good ones tomorrow.”

Howell’s big bass, Mercer stated, had eye apples as large as golf balls. “The eyes weigh at least half a pound!”

Two days ago, Howell had found two days in practice, caught and shook the big bass. When he thought about it this morning, he was a bundle of nerve before starting his boat. He had a late start number and was concerned that someone else would find and catch the fish before he could get to it.

“This morning when they interviewed me out there and they know, I told them I was badly trembling,” said Howell to Mercer. “I shake every morning, but I trembled badly because I knew that fish was sitting there, and I was boot 54, and a bunch of my buddies tried to walk all. But luckily nobody was there before the boat.”

Howell caught the big bass today after finding it in practice.

“It was on the bed and I drove in there and set myself up with my lowrance and made a long line -up,” he said to Mercer. “I almost didn’t throw the Senko on the spider rod, but I did it anyway.

“Only the line -up that Senko discussed went away and I used the hook,” he continued. “If she comes out of the water, I would like:” Oh Lord, please Jesus, don’t let it get out! “And it was bigger than I thought.

“I recently shaken it off and thought it was a six pound,” he said. “I didn’t want to overestimate it, so I only called it for six and a half years. Then I weighed it this afternoon and eight pounds weighed on my size, so I like my god, that’s even greater than I thought! ‘ So it was a great day.

As today, he said, he would throw a Livingston Walking Boss Topwater Bait early in the day before switching to a Yamamoto Senko in the afternoon.
