Emma Raducanus Return to the campaign begins with Madrid’s victory against Suzan Lasten

During her Miami run, Raducanu regularly spoke about showing “resilience” to win games and had to demonstrate this quality in her first Clay Court match again for a year.

Lamens, who took 73th place in the world, is a combative player who has improved a lot last year and is more than comfortable on the surface.

At the beginning of this month, she defeated British number one Katie Boulter in the Billie Jean King Cup tie, the Raducanu missed the body after a full start to the season to “rest” her body.

Raducanu was often unable to cope with lamens’ stroke in the opening set, but recovered from a separation -and saved three more break points in the ninth game -to draw their opponent into a fracture of ties.

Another measure of the improved mentality of the 2021 US Open Champion was an impressive record in these situations – and showed it again.

In addition to Raducanu’s long -time ally Jane O’Donoghue, Petchy was sitting in her box and regularly praised praise and encouragement for crucial crossings.

Raducanu played more aggressively in the second set, but also had to dig deep when Lamens tried to withdraw her behind the baseline.

The British also had brilliant parts after adapting to the fast tonal conditions created by Madrid’s height.

An ongoing forehand across the board and another thundering winner was piled up when Lamens had not kept in a long seventh game.

However, it was not an easy way to win. Raducanu Lost for 4-4, before a frustrated lamens wobbled again and had won the British a further victory of self-confidence.

“I had to fight and pull through some really difficult moments,” added Raducanu.

“If your opponent takes great shots, it is easy to become frustrated and think, ‘Oh my god, you have hit the line so often.

“But I had to reset and accept that it is good for a certain reason and played astonishing tennis.”
