Mariano Navone against Ben Shelton

Shelton defeated Navone pretty easily when they played at Indian Wells a few months ago, but this will be a completely different match. For the beginning, Shelton is from the final in Munich, where he was beaten up by Alexander Zverev. Shelton looked visibly tired in this final, which was not surprising after the American had played two physical threes on the way to this point. I am not sure whether Shelton will feel much better when he comes out again. Playing in a final and then driving to a new city can be drained – both physically and mentally.

Navone is also one of the best returnees of the world’s sound court. This is a statement that was only strengthened in the opening round with a direct victory against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. If Navone could get this surcharge back, he should be able to do the same against Shelton. And that will be interesting to keep an eye because the longer basic exchange of Navone should prefer in a large way.

To be honest, I am much higher in Shelton’s Clay Court game than most others. I think he has a real future on the surface. But a lot is against him here, and Navone should be able to take advantage of this on a surface on which it is better. Keep an eye on the Shelton back here. This recording can still be a problem for the American, so Navone will try to blow up some shots with heavy top spin on this side of the square. This should lead to some Shelton errors or simply open the court for Navone.

Selection: Navone ML (+125 – 1.5 units)

Flavio Cobolli against Holger Rune

Rune is another player who comes from a long run in the long term last week, but his end was a win. Rune defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final in Barcelona and won his first big title in what always feels. Now Rune hopes to play a fantastic tennis in Madrid again. And while he has the game for it, it will be difficult for him to get the engine going early-and that applies especially to an up and down player.

Cobolli is a player that I faded in the opening round. I just don’t think the Italian is a great server, and he also had a lot of problems starting the season. But I was impressed by the way he fought Fabian Marozsan. And he has now won six of the eight games he has played since moving to Clay. It is clear that he finds his groove and makes him a dangerous opponent for Rune.

Cobolli has the type of firepower that is necessary to make the rune a little uncomfortable. Even if Cobolli is not the best server in the world, Rune is not the best returnee. So this is a pretty strong Matchup for Cobolli, and I’m more than good if I test the rune at this point. The Dane is one of my favorite players in the world – and someone I think that one day he will win major – but consistency is not his business card.

Selection: Cobolli +1.5 sets (-132-1.5 units) & Cobolli ML ( +215-0.5 units)
