Anthony Edwards admits that he was confused by the unconventional defense strategy of the Lakers

The Minnesota Timberwolves fought a lot on Tuesday evening at the end of their defeat against the Los Angeles Lakers in Los Angeles Lakers. A 15-point first quarter set the tone for Minnesotas evening and led to a deep hole Anthony Edwards and Co. could not get out of it.

After the game, Edwards admitted that the defense strategy of the Lakers to protect him was “somehow confusing”. He ended with 25 points at the 10 von-22 shooting and a sweet dark.

“This was the first time that I saw it,” said Edwards about La’s unconventional strategy. “Every time I got the ball at the top, it was as if they were in a zone. Even if we cut boys, they just stayed.”

The strategy reflects that the Lakers have focused very much on the fact that Edwards would not be the guy who would beat them. Whenever he had the ball, every defender of Edwards took up, and the entire defense would be depending on where he went. It was not a full zone; LA would play against other players most of the time against other players. But when Edwards had the rock, the Lakers turned to everything they thought they were.

It requires a complete team performance and may not work so well when Edwards has found out where he has to hand over the ball against this look. But loan to JJ Redick and the Lakers coaching staff for the production of a defense system that is unique enough to confuse one of the best goal scorers in the NBA.
