Increased police presence at Springfield schools due to the threat

SPRINGFIELD, NJ – A threat on social media led to an increase in police presence at Springfield schools Monday.

On Sunday evening, Springfield school leaders received an email containing screenshots of a social media chat containing threats against an unspecified Springfield school in New Jersey, Springfield police said.

Springfield police and several other agencies, including Springfield Township in Burlington County, launched an investigation.

Investigators identified the sender of the email as an out-of-state student who saw threatening statements in a social media group chat he was a part of. They took a screenshot of the chat and forwarded it to an email address they found for Springfield Schools to warn about the threats. said the police.

Investigators interviewed the student and were able to confirm the user account from which the threats were made.

“Through examination of the account details, it was determined that all account information and related account activity originated from outside the United States. This information was verified and the threat was deemed unreliable,” police said on Monday evening.

Out of an abundance of caution, police presence at Springfield schools was increased throughout the school day on Monday.
