Well, after dinner with director Will Gluck and co-star Justin Timberlake, they reworked it – and the rest is romantic comedy history. The Black Swan star admitted: “When I got the script it was very dated, but I knew it would be a fun film.” Talk about an impressive first impression. But Mila Kunis saw the potential and sat down with Gluck and Timberlake to discuss the details.

While eating, the three of them realized that they were on the same page (because the best ideas come from eating). “We were able to work on it, rewrite the script and adapt the characters to what we think our generation is today,” Kunis explained. And so the film we know and love was created – funny, fresh and cheeky.

What’s even more incredible? The atmosphere on set was as collaborative as it gets. Kunis liked the teamwork that went into the film, alluding to it: “A lot of times you go to work, have lunch alone and then go back to work.” But Friends with Benefits wasn’t like that. She remembered how she, Justin and Will had dinner together and shared more than just the script. “Three months later, we still enjoy having dinner together and still going out to eat in Los Angeles,” Kunis said. This is real movie magic.

So what could have been a missed opportunity turned into a classic romantic comedy? Kunis didn’t just shape her character; She helped make the film something that resonated with a new generation.

What started as a script that felt dated became a feel-good favorite. And thanks to that dinner, “Friends with Benefits” became a film about love, laughter and, of course, the art of rewriting. No wonder we loved this iconic film!
