Domestic helper arrested for murder of 64-year-old in south Delhi

The 25-year-old previously worked in the same building.

New Delhi:

The South District Police have arrested a 25-year-old man, Abhay Sikarwar, in connection with the recent murder at Panchsheel Park, Malviya Nagar. The accused, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, was arrested from Moti Nagar where he was working as a cook.

Police tracked down the defendant after a comprehensive investigation, which included analyzing footage from over 500 surveillance cameras, electronic surveillance and technical evidence.

The victim, a 64-year-old man, Rohit Kumar, was brutally murdered at his residence in Panchsheel Park on November 25.

According to the police, the defendant had already worked as a domestic helper on the third floor of the same building four years ago and was able to get a detailed overview of the layout of the house.

The police also mentioned that the accused urgently needed money to clear his debts.

On the night of the incident, Sikarwar entered the victim’s house late at night with the intention of robbing him. However, his plan went awry when the man woke up, leading to a physical altercation. In the ensuing argument, Sikarwar fatally attacked the victim with a knife.

Further investigations into the case are underway.

Earlier today, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal along with Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj visited the man’s family.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Kejriwal said that the victim’s family was deeply shocked as the motive behind the incident remained unclear.

“Elderly citizens across Delhi are in distress and businessmen are receiving extortion calls. There are shootings in the city. Crime is rampant in Delhi. I want to ask Amit Shah – when are you going to take action against this? Since he became Home Minister.” “The situation in Delhi has continued to deteriorate,” said the AAP leader.
