The annual memorial ceremony at Pearl Harbor recognizes the 83rd anniversary of the attack

POCATELLO – Bannock County Veteran Services invites the community to a ceremony to honor the 2,403 lives lost in the infamous Pearl Harbor attack 83 years ago.

The ceremony begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge on West Fremont Street in Pocatello.

People are invited to wear Hawaiian shirts and join in the tradition of throwing flower petals into the Portneuf River, started by a local survivor of the attacks.

“We hope the community will join us in remembering this fateful day. It was 83 years ago, but we have not forgotten the immense impact of that day on American history,” said Melissa Hartman, Bannock County Veterans Services Coordinator.

Lunch will be served following the ceremony at the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building, 300 North Johnson Avenue. The food is provided through a joint effort by the Veterans Services Organization Auxiliaries.
