The Amtrak Wolverine Line is experiencing hour-long delays and cancellations due to increased traffic on Thanksgiving

Amid a flurry of holiday travel, Amtrak’s Wolverine Train lines experienced hours-long delays and power outages, with some passengers switching their travel plans from rail to bus as several trains were grounded entirely.

The problems started on Friday. According to an Amtrak spokesman, Wolverine train 352 lost power Friday, bringing train service from Chicago to Detroit to a standstill.

An Amtrak spokesman told the Free Press via email that Train 352 “was stopped due to no power on board.” The stop occurred near New Buffalo around 5 p.m., halting travel for 173 passengers on board. There were no injuries and the train was pulled to Niles by a rescue train. From there, train passengers were “offered alternative transport options to their destination”.

Wolverine train 353 was also completely canceled on Saturday.

Amtrak posted on the Alternative bus transportation is available between Pontiac (PNT) and Chicago (CHI). We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

On Saturday afternoon, Wolverine train 365 was also delayed due to “mechanical issues.” It was stopped near Niles where service crews were working on the engine.

There will continue to be delays on other trains on Saturday. Amtrak’s online tracker shows the Wolverine 365 is more than three hours late and the Wolverine 350 is about 34 minutes late.
