A busy travel day at Philadelphia International Airport as thousands try to get home after vacation

It was a busy travel day at Philadelphia International Airport as thousands of people headed home after Thanksgiving weekend.

“Yeah, it’s a little crazy,” Robby Delgado said.

Paul Bruce is on his way back to Atlanta after spending the vacation with his family. He said the airport was much busier than expected.

“I don’t know if Philly is just a busy place to venture out to on a Sunday after Thanksgiving, but it seems that way to me right now,” Bruce said.

Travelers trying to get through TSA faced long lines. The lines stretched to the other end of the hallway. According to TSA supervisors, wait times were up to nearly 40 minutes at times.

“We knew it was going to be crazy,” Morgan Rosenbaum said.

Morgan Rosenbaum and Jacob Rosenbaum’s stay in Philadelphia was extended another day after their flight was impacted The outage on Saturday in Terminal Dwhich delayed several flights before power was restored.

“We sat here for five hours. They never called our flight and then our flight took off without us because we couldn’t check the luggage. Then we got an airport hotel, stayed here and now we’re back.” Said Jared Rosenbaum.

Airport officials said more than a million passengers were expected to fly in and out of PHL during the holiday week. PHL officials expected nearly 100,000 people to come through the airport on Sunday alone.

“(It’s a) thing you just have to deal with in life. There’s not much you can do about it,” Jim Mellon said.

But despite the crowds, travelers say it was worth spending time with family.

“We can spend time with family and loved ones. So at the end of the day it’s worth it,” Delgado said.

“We had a great Thanksgiving. We saw a lot of people we wouldn’t otherwise see. So it was definitely worth it,” said Morgan Rosenbaum.
